I’m not just doing this to torture you, I promise. This page exists to display the how-to video for this recipe which I exclusively created for my debut cookbook, Dinner. Every recipe in the cookbook has a tutorial video. To watch it, you simply scan the QR code with your phone or tablet and it will take you straight to the recipe video like the one shown above! Curious about my cookbook?...
Don’t forget warm crusty bread for dunking! Broccoli Soup I’m long overdue for a “green” recipe!! And there’s plenty of green in this recipe, with two giant heads of broccoli in it…..though there’s a decent wack of CHEESE to! 😉 But seriously, I joke about this being cheesy and there definitely IS cheese flavour in this. But because of the way I make this, it’s creamy and cheesy but it’s still rather healthy, clocking in at 280 calories if you make this without cream, and just 360 calories with....
Serve it over vermicelli noodles with Vietnamese Nuoc Cham Sauce and your fresh vegetables of choice. Bun Cha – traditional Vietnamese street food! Any self respecting foodie visiting a new country will be armed with a list of “Must Try Foods!!“. And for visitors of Vietnam, Bun Cha should be right up there, alongside Pho, fresh rice paper rolls, and Banh Mi, to name a few favourites. It was certainly one of the first foods I hunted down when I visited Vietnam....
During my recent trip to India, I got a kg of butterbeans from there. Now it is winter season and we get this in local markets. We don’t get this in Hong Kong. I have fond memories of this vegetable, e used to get this in my hometown Madurai. Amma used to add in pulao and make butter beans kurma too. I planned to make kurma only this time but later I was reminded of the Chettinad-style pirattal recipe....
Carnitas Is there anything better in this world than pork slowly cooked until it’s crazy juicy and fall apart tender, then crisped to golden perfection? Yes. When it’s inside a taco. 😂 Carnitas is one of my specialities. I make this recipe often – for everyday purposes, a freezer standby and for taco-bar gatherings with friends! The one and only Pork Carnitas I went through A LOT of Pork Carnitas recipes before settling on this as The One....

Heat oil in a pan and add oil , cumin seeds to this. Then add the chopped onions to this and fry till it turns golden brown. Add the tomato ketchup to this. Add the red chilli powder and salt to this. Add the cauliflower florets....
Chicken cacciatore – an Italian chicken stew I have a soft spot for chicken stews (proof here and here and here) because you get all the stewy-goodness that takes hours with beef stew in under an hour. Because, thank you chicken, you cook fast and we don’t need to take you to fall-apart-goodness to be juicy perfection! Today’s chicken stew is Chicken Cacciatore. “Cacciatore” means “hunter” in Italian and in cooking it commonly refers to a stewy-type meal made with tomatoes, onion, herbs and usually red wine in which a protein is braised, typically chicken and rabbit, though I’ve also seen lamb and vegetarian versions....
These chocolate pecan pie truffles have a solid chocolate outer shell with a gooey center made up of Medjool dates, ghee, maple syrup, and a bit of salt (because all sweets seem to taste better with a bit of salt). They are very easy to make! You blend the dates, syrup, and ghee together to make a thick paste, and then combine this with finely chopped pecans and sea salt....
There are candies EVERYWHERE you look. It’s almost Halloween and grocery stores are acting like candy pushers. I mean, seriously – do we need an entire aisle dedicated to the stuff? Now, if this candy were healthy… maybe I’d have less of an issue 😉 But unfortunately, all of the shelves are filled with cruddy little candies filled with um, crud. Once upon a time, I used to love those cruddy little candies....
Cinnamon Apple Bread I’ve been working on my Apple Pie Project (read: my perfect apple pie) and am convinced that this is the year we will crack it! But either way making apple pie is definitely a labour of love, so meanwhile I also want to share other sweet ways with apples that are faster and easier. Some favourites from my existing apple repertoire are Apple Muffins, Apple Bars, and Apple Crumble....

Serve this for elegant pre dinner drinks, to ring in the New Year or an evening in with the girls! Cosmopolitan Cocktails I love Cosmos for how easy they are to drink – and how I always feel like I’m channeling the New-York-Gal within as I daintily sip away! Truthfully though, I live in the Northern Beach of Sydney. I spend my days in flip flops, denim shorts and comfortable tees, a whirlwind of activity between the kitchen, shooting area and my computer....
Also check out my Carrot capsicum raita, Ash gourd raita, vendakkai thayir pachadi Chop the green chili into small pieces. Take the chopped green chili, curry leaves, 1/4 tsp cumin seeds and salt in your hands. Crush it nicely with your hands. No need to grind in the mixie, a nice crush using fingers will burst out the flavours. In a bowl add the roasted urad dal flour. Add this crushed mixture too....
It’s pretty as a picture! And the speckling part is FUN to do! Easter Cake I confess: I struggle for dessert ideas every year when Easter rolls around. I know, I know, many of you will point out there are all sorts of traditional Easter dessert wonders from around the world … but I am yet to make one that gets me excited. She ducks as people from all over the world chuck rotten eggs at her I implore you to prove me wrong....
Flourless Chocolate Cake This recipe is how I make flourless chocolate cake which is not the usual way but I think it yields better results with the bonus that it’s easier to make. That’s a double win in my books! Usually, flourless chocolate cake is made by beating egg whites then folding it through the batter to make it rise. However, I almost always found that the cake would rise while baking, but then collapse into a crater while cooling....
Just when I thought my morning cold brew couldn’t get any better… I came up with this frosty frozen coconut mocha. It reminds me of a Mounds bar – you know those terrible-for-you candies made with dark chocolate and coconut? I used to LOVE those. You don’t have to feel guilty about drinking this creamy coffee concoction – that’s because unlike a Mounds bar, my drink is made with awesome-for-you ingredients....
