The Mysore street-style masala will not include the North Indian chaat chutneys. They use the Mysore ssaru podi | rasam podi, but I want to make it in the usual chaat style. This turned out so well and is a super hit in our home. Kids who generally don’t prefer to eat Banana stem | Vazhaithandu, didn’t even find their trace in the chaat. Since we chop them so finely, it was not so visible in the chaat. Banana stem | Vazhaithandu has a lot of health benefits. Chop the banana stem into fine pieces. Take out the fiber from the banana stem as you cut them. I cut them the previous day and put them in water. Add 1 tbsp of curd till you use it, this helps in avoiding decoloration.

When it is ready to use, drain the water completely. Add the finely chopped banana stem to a wide bowl. We are adding it raw, no need to cook. It is ok to consume the banana stem raw.

Add 1 finely chopped onion, ¼ cup chopped cucumber, ½ chopped tomato, ¼ cup grated carrot and a little salt. Do not add more salt, we will be adding chaat masala and chaat chutneys. Now add ¼ tsp red chili powder and 1 tsp chaat masala. Add 3-4 tbsp roasted peanuts, alternatively, you can add boiled peanuts too. To this add 2 tbsp sev, I have added South Indian Omapodi. Now add 2 tbsp of sweet chutney and 2 tbsp of green chutney to this.

Mix everything well. Garnish with coriander leaves Lastly, add 2 tbsp of sev.

Banana stem | Vazhaithandu chaat is ready Serve immediately.
