I feel like the combination of cherries + chocolate doesn’t get enough credit. And I think I know why. I think cherry cordials are to blame. I’ll explain. I’ve loved chocolate all of my life. I had never met a chocolate candy I didn’t like… until I ate a cherry cordial. Those candies are terrible, right? To be fair, I haven’t tried one in my adult life because the memory of trying them as a child was just so bad. I know everyone loves strawberries + chocolate (I do too) but I also honestly think cherries are JUST as good with chocolate (as long as we’re not talking about chocolate cherry cordials…). If we’re comparing apples to apples – or, strawberries to cherries… I prefer cherries. Their flesh is so sweet and firm and meaty. If you can’t bear the thought of using your fresh ripe cherries in a recipe (trust me, I understand…) then use frozen cherries. I know, I’m a problem solver 😉 One last thing, when you make this be sure to use cacao powder – not cocoa. Why cacao? Because it’s a good source of antioxidants, magnesium and iron – unlike overly processed cocoa powder. See? This really is a tasty treat that you can feel good about eating. Like this recipe?
