Dal is a staple in Indian cuisine. We include this almost in our daily meal and it is one of the main sources of protein for vegetarians. We make different varieties of dal and this green moong one is one of our favorites. I pack this for kid’s lunch box or make this for dinner too. Everyone has their way of cooking this green gram sabzi. I too make it differently, but after tasting this dal in my friend’s place, almost a year back, I decided to make this that way since we all like that. And another important thing is it is very simple and easy to make. Enjoy this green moong dal sabzi with roti or jeera pulao. Method:

Wash and soak moong dal for 2 hrs. Cut the onions into small. Puree the tomato.

In a pressure cooker, heat oil and add the cumin seeds. When it splutters, add the onions saute for a minute, and add the puree tomatoes to that. Saute for a minute.

Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and red chili powder one by one and mix it nicely. Now add the soaked moong dal and add 1 cup of water. Add the required salt to this. Close the pressure cooker and cook till 6-7 whistles.

When it is done add the Kasoori methi and mix it well. Add 1 cup of water and boil for a minute.

Transfer it to a serving bowl. Garnish it with coriander leaves.

And if you like add some cream to the top of it or you can add a tbsp of milk and mix it, to get a nice creamy texture. Serve hot with rotis.

Notes: This is such a healthy and easy gravy for chapathi. Have made it twice and it was yummy. Can we make this with sprouted moong? Let me know please?
