We make kosumalli | kosambari for Rama navami as a one of the neivedyam. We also make Neer mor, panagam for Sri Rama Navami neivedyam. It is an easy recipe, a very popular one served in Tamil brahmin weddings and feasts. Kosumalli is a protein-rich South Indian salad. We add yellow moong dal, grated carrots, and cucumber to this salad. We are not cooking the moong dal in this recipe. It is soaked in hot water for 15 minutes and then mixed with cucumber and carrots. Sweet kosumalli and this savory kosumalli is served in Tamil brahmin weddings. Sweet kosumalli is made using chana dal and kalkandu | sugar candy. In our family, we make kosumalli for most of the festivals like Deepavali, Varalakshmi nombu. You can add grated coconuts to this kosumalli. Also during the summer season, you can add finely chopped raw mangoes to this. If adding mangoes, skip the lemon juice in this recipe.
