Actually, I planned to post Cabbage kheer which I tasted at a friend’s house in Singapore. As Orange is available in season now, I thought I will share the recipe for the popular Assamese dessert Komala kheer. A perfect way to celebrate New year 2020. Orange kheer | komala kheer is made by reducing milk and cooling it well and adding orange slices to it. I was not sure how orange and milk will taste, but the kheer was out of the world. Everyone at home enjoyed the dessert. Also, check out my green peas kheer and apple kheer recipe.
Of course, this is my first post from the new place. After a decade of blogging from Singapore, now moved to Hongkong, slowly exploring the city. As we are in temporary accommodation now, the lighting was not so great. The pictures didn’t come out as great as I expected but please bear with me for the next few posts. Will be moving back to our rental apartment soon.
Wishing you all a very Happy New year 2020. May this year new year brings you an abundance of joy, wealth, and good health. Thank you for your continuous support of Jeyashris kitchen. Will continue to give my best in the upcoming years as well.
Orange kheer recipe
In a heavy-bottomed pan add 3 cups of milk. Always use full cream milk for the best results.
Boil the milk and once it starts frothing up add a pinch of saffron to this. Let the milk boil. Keep the flame low, stir continuously. Once the milk has reduced to ¾ th switch off the flame.Add 3-4 tblsp of sugar to this.Mix well and allow this to cool completely.
Take out the skin of the oranges and remove the seeds and the white part. We are going to use the flesh of the oranges and the juice we got while doing this. I used small mandarin oranges, if using the kamala orange, use 1 big orange.
Once the milk is completely cooled, add the orange pieces to this.Add sliced pistachios.Serve chilled.
