In Tamilnadu, we make many varieties of chutney for Idli | dosa. A small twist or change in the ingredient completely gives a new taste to the regular chutney. We have a lot of chutney recipes in Jeyashris kitchen. Apart from chutneys, many people prefer sambar for Idli | dosa. In our house, I make chutney on most of the days, when I serve Idli | dosa for breakfast. But Whenever I serve it for dinner, I make sambar. Tiffin Sambar, Hotel sambar, arachuvitta sambar or Instant sambar is the most popular one at our house. Personally for me even if I make chutney and sambar, I pair it up with Molaga podi. Street style Kara chutney

Soak the red chilis in normal water for 10 minutes.You can put the tamarind also along with this if you want.

In a mixie jar, add the pottukadalai, coconut, garlic cloves, salt and the soaked red chilis.

I forgot to add tamarind and so added in the last.Grind this into a smooth paste.

Transfer this to a bowl and add little water to adjust the consistency.

In a pan add oil and temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves.Add this to the chutney.

Mix well.Serve with hot idlis or dosais.

Notes:

  1. You can soak the tamarind also along with the red chilis.
