This uttapam sandwich recipe, Sandwich uttapam turned out to be a super hit at my home. If you are not getting bread during this lockdown period, try this sandwich without using bread. I made the same filling which I used for the Bangalore Iyengar bakery style Masala sandwich recipe. I have given variations in the notes section, please check that out at the end of the post.

Sandwich uttapam

In a pan add 3 tsp oil and add the finely chopped onions.Saute till translucent.

Add the grated carrots and chopped capsicum. Now add the red chili powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt.

Mix well and cook everything for 3-4 minutes till the raw smell of the masala goes away. Switch off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

The filling is ready for our uttapam sandwich.

Heat a dosa pan.Pour a big ladle of batter on it and slightly spread it. Keep the flame low.Add 1-1.5 tbsp of filling on it and spread it gently. If adding cheese, sprinkle some on the top.Pour some batter on the top and cover it fully.

Cook this now in a medium flame.Drizzle oil around the sides.Flip it gently and pat it with the spatula.Drizzle some oil.Let this cook in medium flame.Smear some butter to get a nice flavor. Adding butter will enhance the taste and gives a nice golden color to the uttapam sandwich.Once it is cooked on both sides, cut it into 4 pieces using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.

Serve hot with tomato ketchup or chilli sauce.
